How to delete a URL in the search console [Google Search Console]

One of its features is the "URL Delete" function.

This can be very useful in temporarily or permanently excluding certain pages from search results.

1. Check the purpose of URL deletion

URL removal is a useful feature, but it can have a negative impact on SEO if used incorrectly.

It is appropriate to use it in the following cases:

  1. If you have outdated or incorrect content that you don't want to show up in search results
  2. Pages that contain personal or sensitive information are public

2. Log in to the search console

First, log in to the Google Search Console.

Select the website you manage.

4. Submit a deletion request

5. Check the status of your deletion request

After the request, you can check the status in the "Delete" section of the search console.

Processing: Indicates that the request is under review.

Complete: Indicates that the request has been approved and the URL has been deleted.

The processing usually takes a few days, but sometimes it can take longer.

6. Points to note when permanently deleting

The "Delete URL" feature in the Search Console is only temporarily hidden.
If you want to remove it completely, follow these steps:

Delete the page on the server:
Delete the file from the server so that the access to the URL returns a 404 error.

Set noindex tag:
Add the <meta name="robots" content="noindex"> to the page.

Updated XML sitemap:
Remove the URL from your sitemap and resubmit it.

Check the link:
Make sure that your internal or external links don't reference the URL.
